Paul Cadman on the week ahead across One Thousand Trades Group, from the Defence Procurement Conference to Life Sciences Week.
The week ahead is one to raise the tempo. My mindset is positive, focused and locked onto strategy and delivery. There’s momentum across every part of the group and now is the time to push on.
Events that widen opportunity
The Defence Procurement Conference is accelerating fast, opening new conversations and widening opportunity for the Midlands. Life Sciences Week in September is building the same pull, with interest coming in from across the UK and overseas. Tomorrow’s visit from a Chinese delegation shows how far the region’s reach is extending and how seriously people are taking what we’re building.
We’re also moving towards the launch of the West Midlands Security & Defence Cluster — a major step in positioning Birmingham as a national centre of gravity for capability, innovation and supply chain strength. The foundations are set and the timing is right.
The week ahead includes a proud moment from the Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club Cancer Research UK (CRUK) fundraiser, where we’ve already passed £10,000 and climbing. On Monday night we mark that effort with dinner at the UCB restaurant alongside the dynamic Trish Adudu and auction winner Rubina Begum. A brilliant cause and a reminder of why giving back matters.
Across One Thousand Trades Group
Across the One Thousand Trades Group, new colleagues are joining and strengthening what we can deliver. The mindset across the teams stands out: positive, committed and pushing forward. They’re not waiting for momentum — they’re creating it.
Walk Through Walls has been flying. The team has stepped up, sharpened their delivery and moved with real purpose. I’m genuinely impressed.
Starting Point Recruitment (SPR) is driving hard too. This week is part of a coordinated push across sales, comms and digital with a clear target: 200 job starts, career changes and new positions across the region and wider.
Our events company is in full flow with more than 45 events to manage across the region, and we’re still looking for hosts and venues. The scale of activity shows how far the platform has grown.
The Technology Supply Chain is booming with new patrons and partners. The team keeps raising the bar — well done to everyone involved.
Expect more from West Midlands News as the Life Sciences breakfast event approaches. The platform continues to deliver. If you have articles, viewpoints or commentary, reach out if you want to engage.
The focus for the week ahead
The focus for the week ahead is simple: lift the pace, stay connected and keep pushing forward together.
The opportunities are here. The people are ready. The mindset is right. This is a week to turn movement into outcomes and make every conversation count.
