On 24 June 2025, Paul Cadman made his 200th donation of blood plasma at the Birmingham Plasma Donor Centre on New Street.
Paul has given blood and plasma since the late 1980s. He was following the example of his late father, Ron, who gave blood for 50 years.
Why plasma matters
Plasma is the part of the blood that carries antibodies. Donated plasma is made into medicines for people with rare diseases and immune disorders. Unlike blood, it does not have to match the patient’s blood type.
A thank you from NHS Blood and Transplant
NHS Blood and Transplant thanked Paul for his commitment, and for encouraging people in the community to sign up as donors. In 2024, he also launched the Plasma 10 campaign, which asked Birmingham firms to find new donors.
Paul’s motto explains why he keeps going: “Imagine a world where your benefit to others is the measure of success rather than the accumulation of wealth.”
