A Lifelong Commitment to Giving: My Journey as a Plasma Donor

LIKE THIS 90

At the core of everything I do is a desire to give back, support my community, and make a difference where I can. One of the most meaningful ways I’ve been able to contribute is through plasma donation—a journey that has now spanned nearly 37 years.

Recently, I had the humbling privilege of receiving recognition from NHS Blood and Transplant for my ongoing plasma donations and advocacy for the cause (Which you can read here). Over the years, I’ve witnessed how this simple act of giving can bring hope and healing to countless patients and their families.

Plasma donations are crucial in creating life-saving treatments for those who depend on them. Every donation offers the potential to change lives, and I am proud to have played a small role in supporting the NHS’s mission. I’ve also had the honor of contributing to the expansion of plasma donation services, helping lay the foundation for new clinics that will ensure more patients can access the care they need.

Community service has always been at the heart of who I am. For me, giving relentlessly is not just a motto—it’s a way of life. I encourage everyone to explore how they can contribute to causes that matter to them. Sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness can have the biggest impact.

To learn more about plasma donation and how you can get involved, visit the NHS Blood and Transplant website. Together, we can continue making a difference.

Stunning new charity mural unveiled in Digbeth, Birmingham

Stunning new charity mural unveiled in Digbeth, Birmingham

The devastating impact of COVID-19 and its effects will live long in the memory. Not since World War II has Birmingham’s collective spirit shone brighter.

A dramatic new mural depicting Birmingham keyworkers battling against COVID-19 against the backdrop of the city’s skyline has been painted for charity in Digbeth.

Birmingham-based street artist Josh Billingham (aka Gent48) painted the gigantic mural over the past few days and the final touches will be applied on Friday as the mural is unveiled to local dignitaries. The vivid new art also celebrates members of Birmingham’s Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) community who have played a key role in the war against COVID-19.

The spirit of Birmingham has been put through a formidable test in recent months by the coronavirus pandemic, and the strength and resilience of the community spirit is in need of a boost.

A charitable collective, Art for Charity, was determined to boost and celebrate the collective spirit of Birmingham with an inspirational piece of artwork entitled ‘Forward in Unity’.

Birmingham-based creative entrepreneurs Professor Paul Cadman and Nathaniel Hanna came together with the specific aim of highlighting the indomitable spirit of the city and to recognise Birmingham creatives.

The goal of the charity is to harness the creativity and skills of artists and creatives across Birmingham and to raise much-needed funds for charity.

In return, the artists receive royalties for everything they produce, with the most significant portion reserved for charitable endeavours. Crucially, the supported cause is and will always remain the Lord Mayor’s Charity, ensuring that funds raised in the city fund fantastic efforts in the city.

The devastating impact of COVID-19 and its effects will live long in the memory. Not since World War II has Birmingham’s collective spirit shone brighter.

In our latest Ready for 2024 interview, Group CEO and Managing Director of Starting Point Recruitment Paul Cadman looks ahead to share the employment specialist’s plans to expand its footprint in the year ahead.

As he leads the Chamber Patron business, Paul says it will contribute to “the realisation of a vibrant economy that generates employment opportunities and enhances residents’ overall quality of life”.

Working in recruitment, Paul predicts that 2024 will be a year in which the Black Country region flourishes, “creating additional avenues for its people, companies, and startups”.

The Black Country Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the companies looking forward to building success in the next 12 months. Through Ready for 2024, we are speaking members who are ready to deliver on their exciting plans.

Each day we are featuring member firms, ranging from start-ups to large companies, on the Chamber website and social media channels to share their opinions on the opportunities for the taking during the next year.

What will your company be focussing upon in 2024?

In the coming year, Starting Point Recruitment has ambitious plans to expand into Birmingham with new offices. We plan to launch new products to improve the job hunting experience in the region and grow our own team to deliver recruitment to more amazing Black Country businesses.

What are your hopes for the Black Country economy and its businesses in 2024?

Our vision for the Black Country economy in 2024 is centred on fostering diversity, innovation, and sustainability. We aspire to contribute to the realisation of a vibrant economy that generates employment opportunities and enhances residents’ overall quality of life. Starting Point Recruitment is pivotal in identifying and recruiting untapped potential critical for the region’s growth in the coming year.

Why will the Black Country be a great place to do business in the 12 months ahead?

The Black Country boasts substantial potential and growth opportunities, evidenced by a notable 80% rise in employment over the last three years. With its diverse population and the influx of new businesses, we anticipate the region flourishing in the coming year, creating additional avenues for its people, companies, and startups.

What will you use your Chamber membership for in the year ahead?

At Starting Point Recruitment, we view our Chamber membership as a strategic asset. Focused on networking and pursuing new business opportunities. We aim to leverage this membership to match businesses with our exceptional talent in the region.

What do you hope will happen for the UK economy as a whole?

We anticipate a continued modest GDP growth. Businesses in the coming year may face critical decisions due to sustained inflation growth. Recruitment will continue to be problematic for many hospitality, retail, and manufacturing businesses, hampering growth in these areas.

What does your company do?

We have over two decades of history partnering with companies across the Black Country to hire the best talent they need. We offer both permanent and temporary recruitment across a wide range of sectors. With offices in Walsall at the heart of the region, we facilitate connections between exceptional, hard-working talent and some of the most exciting companies and organisations in the area.
