Paul Cadman meets a patient helped by plasma donors

When Paul Cadman made his 200th plasma donation in June 2025, he got a special thank you at the Birmingham donor centre.

He met Michelle from Coventry. A few years ago, she was diagnosed with a rare blood-clotting condition called TTP. She needed 150 units of plasma in one week, and she told Paul that donors like him had kept her alive.

Why Paul gives plasma

Paul first gave blood almost 40 years ago. As a firefighter, he saw how plasma helped patients at the scenes of fires. His father also gave blood for around 50 years, and Paul followed his example.

A donation takes about 45 minutes, and Paul encourages more people to visit a donor centre.
